Hello, my name is Erin
I have been an educator for over 15 years. Much of that time has been spent in the role of Coach. When I first accepted my first coaching role, I quickly learned valuable lessons in regards to building relationships and supporting teachers based on their needs. I found that I was drawn to early career teachers because of how eager they were to collaborate. That has stayed with me as I have watched teaching and coaching change over the years.
My Story
I began coaching in schools because of the positive impact instructional coaches had had on my career. I knew I wanted to support teachers in the same way I had been supported. As the years progressed, I noticed that teaching was changing. The expectations placed on teachers were different than what I had experienced. Then came COVID and the world of online and hybrid learning was thrust on teachers. I fought for my teachers behind the scenes to adjust expectations and redefine instruction to provide for creativity and flexibility. It was then that I realized,
Teaching has changed. Coaching has to.
Twelve years after my first coaching role and some beliefs have not and will not change:
-
human first, teacher second
-
help where the need is; rearrange desks, replace batteries, 1:1 student assessments, etc.
-
focus on the successes
-
ask questions
